I went to my doctor first thing this morning. The visit was scheduled as a (belated) follow-up to my mammogram, and Dr. Kump has duly checked my breasts and, like the mammogram and sonogram, found no problem. I also asked her to look in my left ear, because I've had intermittent pain; she found some fluid, and wrote me a prescription for an antibiotic, which I will pick up after work. I also have eight more physical therapy sessions approved, and the advice that I try scrubbing my eyelashes with baby shampoo to deal with the dryness and itching. I'm not convinced this will help, but it seems harmless.

I had a reasonable workout last night. gym details )

redbird: closeup of me drinking tea, in a friend's kitchen (Default)

I've just had my second encounter today with someone whose name I couldn't remember.

The first was in the hallway while waiting for my doctor's office to open--an ex-neighbor who now lives in that building and greeted me with "Hey, Inwood girl." I suspect we never knew each other's names.

The second was just now, coming back from the office cafeteria. He said "Vicki" in tones of surprise. It was one of the people who used to do freelance proofreading for Computing Reviews, when I was working there. We chatted a bit, and he wished me well here; I'd forgotten that he'd been working for McGraw-Hill one day a week for a very long time. I checked the address book in my PDA, and it reminded me that his name is Lester.

Specifically, I do not need to eat a sugar-glazed donut just because there's a box of them available at the office. Nor do I need to eat artificial-vanilla-flavored ice cream novelties just because someone is giving them out as "hey, you've all done well, let's celebrate a little."

Yes, it was easier to refuse the ice cream because I'd had a good, rich brownie with my after-lunch tea. But there's a real tendency to take and eat just about anything that's being given out at the office, and I'm glad to be remembering that free does not always mean desirable.
