Specifically, I do not need to eat a sugar-glazed donut just because there's a box of them available at the office. Nor do I need to eat artificial-vanilla-flavored ice cream novelties just because someone is giving them out as "hey, you've all done well, let's celebrate a little."

Yes, it was easier to refuse the ice cream because I'd had a good, rich brownie with my after-lunch tea. But there's a real tendency to take and eat just about anything that's being given out at the office, and I'm glad to be remembering that free does not always mean desirable.

Congrats. *wry grin* I think I am constitutionally incapable of turnign down a Krispy Kreme. For other doughnuts, mileage varies.

I used to be incapable of turning down a Krispy Kreme (or three). When a Krispy Kreme store opened at the bottom of the hill less than a mile from home, however, aversion therapy was definitely called for...

Lord. The free food thing gets me, too. It was a major victory of clarity of desire when I managed to be able to consistently turn down slices of people's birthday cakes, in the workplace. I don't *like* most cake, especially not inexpensive mass-produced grocery store cake. But I would eat it, knowing the whole time that I wasn't enjoying it, because it was offered to me.

Rah. Go you. Eat only the doughnuts you want.
