redbird: Edward Gorey picture of a bicyclist on a high wirer (gorey bicycle)

I just returned from mailing my Travelzoo stock certificate to a stockbroker, so I can sell it. About the only part of this entire situation that I understand is that the stockbroker expects all such mail to be sent registered; I had to fill in a value, for insurance purposes, and picked $300 out of a hat.

Those of you with good memories may remember that I posted about looking for a broker to handle this. Poking around yesterday, I found a discount brokerage that assured me, by email, that they would handle this single transaction for their $6.95 flat rate, and not charge anything to send me a check for the amount in my account after it sold. You may also remember that this is pure windfall: the company was giving away stock to anyone with an email address who asked, a few years ago.

I gather that my delay in finding a broker--when the first round of hunting produced nothing, I more or less forgot about it for several months, and then yesterday did a bit more googling, which led me to stocks.about.com, which had an ad for Firsttrade, which turned out to be offering what I want--means I'll get a smaller windfall profit than I might have, but it's still pure windfall profit.

I went out for a walk with [livejournal.com profile] cattitude about 9 last night, and the fireflies were out in large numbers. Instead of just being right next to the river (there's a stone wall, then a little patch of random wooded stuff next to the river), they were all over the lawn in the park as well. We saw one firefly that seemed to lack an off switch: instead of the usual quick flash, it would light up brightly, then sort of taper down to darkness, and repeat after a moment.

I went through the dresser today. Some things got thrown away: stained or just worn out. And there are a couple of t-shirts with spots that I may try the oxy-clean (non-chlorine bleach) I'm getting to treat a linen shirt on.

Mostly, though, there's a drawer-full of stuff that either doesn't fit me, or is in colors such that I'm not sure why I ever bought it, or styles that I no longer like, if I ever did. It includes: t-shirts, tank tops (including some silk), shorts, leggings, long-sleeved pullovers (including jersey and velour shirts, and a silk turtleneck), two swimsuits, one of them a two-piece of which only one piece fits me, and probably a few things I'm forgetting. Most of these are women's size large and medium (the mediums are rather old).

I'm already tentatively expecting [livejournal.com profile] bugsybanana to look at things from round 1. I don't know how long I'm going to hang on to this stuff, since the point of this is largely to reclaim storage space. I may put it on Freecycle by the end of the month.
