redbird: Edward Gorey picture of a bicyclist on a high wirer (gorey bicycle)

I left my PDA, a.k.a. the spare brain, at home this morning. I haven't needed it for anything yet, but it's odd not to have it here.

Other than that, it's the sort of overcast day that looks like what people expect of a Monday morning--not that eastern New Jersey is the most delightful of views to begin with, and I'm looking at a manuscript which has, I think, eight or nine places where the woman who leaves tomorrow dropped in filler instead of writing actual content.

That's this morning. Yesterday, conversely, I had a good couple of hours with [livejournal.com profile] roadnotes, tea and conversation and a bit of walking. I came home with chocolate, tea, rye bread (most of which has been frozen for later sandwiches), and shrimp. Then I had a good, brief phone conversation with [livejournal.com profile] alanro, who was on the phone with [livejournal.com profile] cattitude when I got home. I wouldn't exactly say I was insecure, but both those conversations were reassuring.

I forgot to mention one pleasant bit of morning: on the way to work, Cattitude and I stopped to feed the ducks. It took a while, because they weren't moving off the bit of mud flat to come to the usual feeding spots. But when we walked over there, we found six new ducklings--fluffy new baby theropods! Soft! And hungry.

I read the new Harry Potter over the weekend.

I don't think it's a spoiler to note that what I liked best about it was the Peruvian darkness powder. Also, the ending hits reader and characters alike over the head with The Message.

Now, I'm going back to rereading Greg Egan.
