I got up and out early this morning, and lifted lots of weights. Then I went down to Village Apothecary and bought two tubes of toothpaste (because they're the only place I can find that carries the particular toothpaste I like), and then to Sahadi, where I got lots of dried fruit, tea, nuts, spices, and such. I used to get out of there for around $20, almost every visit; today I spent $29. Cheese and chocolate don't come cheap. But I have sea salt, and the ingredients for chocolate-ginger cakelings (I'm going to taste this "French vanilla" chocolate, and if it seems plausible, bake with it.)

With all that, I think I'll stay in the rest of the day, not head out again to meet [livejournal.com profile] roadnotes and other friends at the piano bar tonight.

[livejournal.com profile] elisem just posted asking about people's user icons. After answering, it occurred to me that there are people reading this who aren't on her friends list and might be interested:

I have two that are outdoor photos of me, one taken in Inwood Hill Park (my default icon) and one in Hay. A few of the others I use mostly for specific tones or subjects: the "road not maintained" sign is for danger, usually emotional/mental. There's a bit of "risky stuff here" with the Gorey bicycle one as well, but not as strong. I use the picture of my cardinal tattoo for all tattoo-related comments, the crocuses are when I'm thinking of Spring or want to. I have a scan of my London Underground travelcard, which I use for travel-related posts. There's one with the French flag and "Vive" that I got from [livejournal.com profile] lysana when stupid France-bashing was going around. The photo with purple hair is likely to be grabbed when I'm talking about anything related to that, but can come up at other times.

The train is a play on words: that particular style of subway cars are/were called "redbirds." The Mandelbrot picture is a pretty thing that I like (though I did post something math-related in a comment recently and decide it had to have that icon), as is the pickled dragon (which I'll probably still use sometimes even though I changed my "name" away from "Pickled Baby Dragon").

The roadsign is a fair guarantee of what's ahead; most of the others may be used just because I feel like it.
