As a side benefit of pet-sitting for [livejournal.com profile] porcinea, I found and read two Amanda Cross books I hadn't realized existed. (The other is a short story collection.) Honest Doubt is her first novel with a detective other than Kate Fansler (though Kate is a character in this one), and her first novel told in first-person rather than tight third.

It also has footnotes. Not weird or silly footnotes a la Nabokov (I'm told) or Pratchett: actual academic-style footnotes, to books and stories the characters refer to. I had a lot of fun reading it: it flows well, and the viewpoint character is good company. Then I got to the end, wandered off, and started scribbling notes.

This was at twilight (maybe 20 minutes ago), after [livejournal.com profile] womzilla gave me a ride home after the NYRSF meeting. I didn't do much productive at the NYRSF meeting, unless you count socializing with my friends, including Moshe and Teresa as well as the usual NYRSF suspects.

I did about 1/3 to 1/2 a workout, before stopping because of a pain between my shoulderblades.

Then I went down to 14th Street, picked up berries and cookies and other good things, and fed [livejournal.com profile] porcinea's animals. Trouble was glad to see me, and less pleased to be physically removed from my lap so I could make tea.

The Greenmarket had no flowers I wanted, but I bought peas and bread. Then I joined Womzilla, [livejournal.com profile] agrumer, [livejournal.com profile] bugsybanana, [livejournal.com profile] drcpunk, and [livejournal.com profile] mnemex for a quick Chinese meal, so the peas will be saved for tomorrow.
