I saw fireflies (three or four) over the garden in front of our building. I caught one and had it crawl on my hand for a minute or so. This was at twilight (maybe 20 minutes ago), after [livejournal.com profile] womzilla gave me a ride home after the NYRSF meeting. I didn't do much productive at the NYRSF meeting, unless you count socializing with my friends, including Moshe and Teresa as well as the usual NYRSF suspects.

I did about 1/3 to 1/2 a workout, before stopping because of a pain between my shoulderblades.

Cardio, 33 minutes, top heart rate 148
Calf machine, 20 pounds, 3 sets of 12
Bench press, 50 pounds, 13, 13, 10+3
Seated leg curl, 85 pounds, 3 sets of 13
Crunches, 3 sets of 20
Back lift with physio ball, 2 sets of 15
Upper back stretch

Then I went down to 14th Street, picked up berries and cookies and other good things, and fed [livejournal.com profile] porcinea's animals. Trouble was glad to see me, and less pleased to be physically removed from my lap so I could make tea.

The Greenmarket had no flowers I wanted, but I bought peas and bread. Then I joined Womzilla, [livejournal.com profile] agrumer, [livejournal.com profile] bugsybanana, [livejournal.com profile] drcpunk, and [livejournal.com profile] mnemex for a quick Chinese meal, so the peas will be saved for tomorrow.

Some day (well, *night*) I have *got* to see fireflies! Summer before last I spent a couple nights with an extended family member in Connecticut who said she got fireflies every night, but nope, I still never saw any.

Hm, I am curious about this pain between the shoulder blades of which you speak. I wonder if it is in any way related to the cramps/knots I've been getting for years between my shoulders, which turned out to be a result of over-developed trapezius muscles and under-developed mid-back (rhomboid et al) muscles. I discovered this when my recent neck/back injury at work sent me to PT, and someone actually taught me exercises that have been very successful at making the cramping/knotting go away and stay away...

At any rate, if anything in that sounds familiar, let me know and I'd be glad to try to describe the things I've been doing which have made a difference.

I miss fireflies. They're beautiful. Yeah!

What colour are your fireflies?

(The ones in Vermont were golden, the ones here are green.)

There are also a few reddish/orange ones every year, but they're a minority. You can go several evenings without seeing one.

fireflies, I haven't seen many of them yet this summer. Maybe with all the rain up here in Connecticut they flooded away. Anyhow, good to run into you in this venue... -- Diann.
