On the other hand, I don't think it's fair for The Onion to run real news: the first item under "News in Brief" is "U.S. Refuses To Allow U.N. Weapons Inspectors Back Into Iraq"

While I was thinking idle what-shall-we-do-for-lunch thoughts today, [livejournal.com profile] porcinea called, to invite me to join her and [livejournal.com profile] snippy for the afternoon. Snippy was in town just for the day, as a side trip from D.C. I said sure, showered, and headed out via the local diner, where I had a nice bowl of lentil soup.

A quick stop at Union Square, to cash a couple of small reimbursement checks from my previous health insurance company and buy strawberries at the Greenmarket, and I was at P's. Other people came and went--Elissa was there briefly, and Elizabeth showed up a bit after I did and stayed (as far as I know, neither of them has an LJ). Piglet was out for a while, doing doctor-visit things, but we did fine in her absence, talking while Simon did useful work-type things at the other end of the apartment. Conversation, tea, and eventually a home-cooked dinner; I was embarrassed to find that the quiche filling triggered my "cooked greens--ugh! Slime!" reaction, but I ate lots of salad, bits of quiche crust, and probably too much dessert. Trouble actually came and talked to people, and I stroked the more outgoing of the rabbits; sort of prep for my upcoming pet-sitting gig.

Porcinea, Elizabeth, and I went with Snippy to the railroad station, which turned out to be a good thing, because her train was 40 minutes late. I enjoyed more hanging out with them, then grabbed a strawberry ice at the Lemon Ice King of Corona stand (despite the sign outside, they had neither peach nor watermelon), came home, and cooked an egg quickly on the theory that I had had too many sweets and not enough protein. I passed a "Noticias 41/Univision" camera van parked outside the church on the way home. A neighbor greeted me in the park, but when I asked if she knew why it was there, she expressed surprise, not having seen it. Having looked at the NY1 site, I think it's connected to the sentencing of an Ecuadoran priest, who had briefly assigned to that church, for molesting an altar boy.

Artemis is howling, so I'm going to bed now, though [livejournal.com profile] cattitude will be waking me when he gets in, so we can medicate her. (My suggestion--the combination of my being out all afternoon with his gaming evening is not convenient for cat-dosing.)
