Two strangers commented on my tattoos today.
The first started the conversation, in the elevator from my gym, by asking "Who did your tattoos?" I told her--Craig Cooley of Abstract Tribal Tattoo, on Eldridge--and she then said that she likes tattoos but doesn't have any. She used the word "hesitant." I pointed out that it doesn't hurt that much. That wasn't it: she's worried about how a tattoo will look when she's "90 and sagging". So I said that when I'm 90, the tattoos are likely to be the best-looking part of me.
She hadn't thought of that.
I don't think she's going to head right down to Craig to get a tattoo, but she may think about it.
The other was simple praise, the cashier at Amy's Bread telling me she liked my bird.

Doing pretty well:
* 100 pounds on the hip adduction, and 90 on the hip abduction, 3 sets of 15 for each.
* 21 or so minutes of cardio, that being how long it took me to finish what I had to read.
* bench-pressing 45 pounds, again 3 sets of 15, though the third set was difficult
* got through 3 whole sets at 60 pounds on the leg curl (no cramping)
* took the adjustable row up to 90 pounds, and did 3 sets of 12
* a set of tricep pull-downs at 70 pounds with the straight handle, then 2 sets of 45 (a 5-pound increase) with the weird rope handle. 15-rep sets, again
Not doing so well:
My back started hurting partway through the second set of crunches, so I stopped. I don't like crunches, but this has never happened before. Did a few stretches after that, then went over to the seated leg press. The first set, at 180 pounds, was difficult, so I figured "it's not monotonic" and took it down 20 pounds. Still not great, so I stopped: my knees weren't happy, and neither were the quads that machine is supposed to exercise.
So I stopped, showered and changed, and went over to Amy's Bread for a snack. A cup of tea and a chocolate-challah twist, a nice after-gym, afternoon sort of snack. I also bought ginger snaps, and more rolls and such so we'll have breakfast tomorrow morning. I then made an unsuccessful attempt to find a nice, short-sleeved blouse suitable for a job interview. I think I have something, but most of what
eleanor helped me buy is long-sleeved, because we went shopping in the Fall.
Overall score: 4 successes (a quick stop at the bank, the gym, the bakery, and buying stamps) and one failure (clothing shopping).
And it's COOL outside. Actually cool. As in, "I'm underdressed, I should be wearing long pants". Tomorrow, into the hills to look for late raspberries, early blackberries, and eagles.
