I got an email this morning from a fannish friend, asking if I'd be interested in a research job. I wrote back, saying "Yes, what would it involve?" I think it was sent last night, and my reply probably hasn't been read yet--but not only would actual interesting work be a good thing, but it is definite egoboo to have someone writing to ask whether I want work.

Butterflies in the stomach over this possible opportunity? It will be interesting to see whether this is an opportunity based on something you're known for, or asking you to start from scratch and organize less familiar information and find the data. Either is egoboo, for sure.

Has the heat broken down there? Here some intense thunderstorms rolled through in the early afternoon, and the day's been quite nice since.

Here's to hoping for something good coming of it

Hmm! I'm interested to learn more. I am intending to apply for any research jobs which come along which are `technical' research - investigating a subject in detail for some presentation, report or study - but I would run a mile before taking a `market' research job, for example. `Academic research' is different again...

Good luck!
