I have been to the eye doctor, for a routine checkup. All is well, and I don't need a new eyeglass prescription. (A relief, as bifocals are not cheap.)

If you haven't been in a few years, note that they can now check for glaucoma without blowing a painful puff of air at you.

As of last year they were still doing this at my eye doctor, so possibly they just don't have the new gadgetry yet.

I'm not sure of how it works technologically: what I know is that it's part of the "now put your chin here and look into this" set-up that my eye doctor uses for lots of things.

If you're in a mood to switch doctors, he's at 30 E. 40th Street in Manhattan. Gerard Schiller (and Debra Guthrie, but I always see Dr. Schiller, because he's the one who was in the first time I needed them), 212-685-1232, takes most if not all insurance.

Yay. Altho' I love the aesthetics of getting new glasses, my always-pricey lenses went up by another $200 when I got progressive bifocals last year. Sigh. I hear ya, sister!

We should get in touch w/r/t to this weekend and maybe getting together... I'll send you mail or call tonight.

Rats. When I got my new glasses last month, the puffed me. They also said I should have an exam where my eyes are dilated, but that'll will be next year.

Sounds like Optomap (http://www.optos.com/forpatients/optomapretinalexam/default.aspx), which has made life so much easier for me and my optometrists/ophthalmologists. Nothing like a nice combination of "family history of glaucoma" and "I don't care if it's just air, keep it the hell away from my eyes!" to make eye exams really fun.

I'm going tomorrow. What I don't like is the drops which make you half-blind for hours afterwards.
