I may have unrealistic expectations for myself, as far as being an easy person to be around.

You are not "easy to be around" in the sense that, whether I am responding in your journal or talking to you in person, I find myself needing to be more decent and thoughtful than I might otherwise. It's sometimes easier to be in the presence of a total jerk, as that grants implicit permission to be a total jerk right back at them. Nearly any discussion of politics provides ample evidence of this.

I'm afraid your friends will just have to learn to tolerate your decency.

That's part of what I was thinking of. Also that I consider it inappropriate to go out in public if I can't act like an adult.
