We had a fun zoom call with my mother (who lives in London) this afternoon. She had no real news, just a hello from my cousin. I told her about my appointment with the eye doctor tomorrow, and also told her that while I am not entirely recovered from falling a couple of weeks ago, I have improved significantly in the last day or two.

I did mention that whatever the eye doctor does or doesn't do tomorrow morning, the appointment a couple of weeks earlier was vastly reassuring, because the doctor was able to tell me that I do not have either glaucoma or macular degeneration. I wasn't particularly or specifically worried about either of those, but "it could be A or B, and they're both fairly minor" is good news. There is something science fictional about the idea of using a laser to do maintenance on my medical implant, i.e., the replacement lenses.

No real news is a good enough reason to call :) I'm glad you're continuing to recover.

I do that with both my eldest and my step-dad who live far away.

You're right about the science fictional laser. I watched an eye surgeon operate on my right eye with a laser in real time - I had to keep my eye open, and the view he was seeing was shown in a computer monitor in my eyeline. It only took about five or ten minutes, and might have been the most surreal sf experience of my life.

Glad for good news.
