New friend

I spent most of this afternoon with livredor, who is delightful company. We wandered around the Museum of Natural History, looking at dinosaurs, extinct mammals, and so on, and had a fine time, despite the docent who insisted on pointing things out despite our lack of interest in talking to him. (Another docent responded very well to my question "I thought they'd found a second species of coelacanth", and admitted that the sign was out of date.) I also got to show off the glass invertebrates, and see the refurbished Hall of Ocean Life, complete with life-size model blue whale. We also discovered that scallops not only use jet propulsion, they hop on their edges: "Clams got legs!"

By then I was in serious need of a cup of tea, so we went back to the apartment that Livredor and her friend Jen are borrowing, had tea, and talked for another couple of hours, then went out and had kosher pizza (with mushrooms, fresh garlic, and fried onions).

The morning I'd spent at the gym, then invited myself downtown to eat some of eleanor's macaroni and cheese.

Somewhere between the two. I'd noticed livredor commenting on someone's journal, and then rysmiel encouraged me to contact us, thinking--correctly--that we'd get along well.

See, the confusion was due to a big gaping hole in my logic. When you friended me I assumed rysmiel had pointed you in my direction, but then when you said you didn't know who I was, I counted that for evidence against my initial theory. Cos it didn't occur to me that Rysmiel might well introduce me to you without explaining how we know eachother. I should have worked this out, knowing how discreet Rysmiel is about such things.

It's just not the kind of thing I do; I introduce people by saying, this is so-and-so whom I know from such-and-such a social context, and by the way, I think you might have this third acquaintance (or interest, failing that) in common. But this works just as well as my way (and might indeed be preferable where privacy is an issue).
