So far today, I have

  • exchanged email with a professor who is going to be my next proofreading client

  • sent my pilaf recipe to someone who asked for recipes for leftover chicken

  • cleaned the stovetop (after putting the crumb trays and the iron frameworks that go over the burners when the stove is on)

In the process of sending out the pilaf recipe, I realized that I've been using significantly less butter/margarine than it calls for, and that this may be why it hasn't always been coming out right. I also rewrote the recipe to reflect changes I had made on purpose, and to list the ingredients in the order that they're used in.

This feels like enough for the morning, if not the whole day. And I haven't even showered yet, despite having been up for a couple of hours.

Felt good enough this morning (and had public health nurse's permission) to go to the grocers' and the chemists' shops. Village was very quiet at 0700, and the loudest sound notes were the sparrows and thrushes singing in the trees, and the frogs having a union meeting over in the Railway Swamp.

Interestingly, the grocers' still had lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, although the piles of oranges had obvious cardboard-box centres.

Meat was almost gone from the butchery shelves, but there was still plenty of smoked and tinned fish of all sorts, and there was fresh fish of various North Pacific genera, although they were being kept on ice in back, and the fishmonger had to go fetch them and carry them out for display.

I bought a lovely piece of halibut to balance-off against the two big fat sockeye salmon that our fishing-captain neighbour gave to us.

Bog roll and paper towels nearly all gone, except for the fully-stocked high shelf on which cardboard cases of Chinese bamboo-fibre big roll were stacked. I used that sort of paper in China, quite happily, and was just a wee bit surprised to hear from the stock-clerk that folks were complaining along the lines of "it's from China, will it make me sick?"

Probably not....

So far as I have heard, viral transmission 'down there' is a one-way street.

We don't eat a lot of meat in this house. News of the big Albertan meat-packing plants closing down (over clusters of viral infection) has come over the radio. I'd guess something like two weeks before shortages work their way down the supply chain. In any case, steak tartare is probably not a good menu choice these days.

Oh, both the grocers' and the chemists' had Girl Guide cookies. Nom!

Yay for early productivity!

I can't claim a lot of productivity, myself, yet, today, but I did do 30+ minutes of Qi Gong, which I'm quite pleased about. 😊

Would love that recipe if you have a chance!

Certainly busy... I have to do our stovetop. I am not fond of this stove with its crazy heavy one-piece "iron frameworks" as you put it so well.
