Speaking as someone who has rocked a similar cut it really does require nothing BUT a touch of gel can do some fun things shaping-wise (I use Clubman - which is harder to get in tubes these days so I order from the Amazon as I find it more manageable - or one of a couple others). You can tousle your hair with a bit when it's wet (I think of it like Brylcreem: a little dab'll do ya), or apply it and then slick it all back or part it. It gives a bit of control.
