I could go to Montreal for the weekend, or I can stay home.

The advantages of Montreal are, basically, that I get to see [livejournal.com profile] rysmiel, [livejournal.com profile] papersky, and [livejournal.com profile] zorinth, possibly other cool people, and have a vacation feeling for a few days.

The disadvantages are the 8-hour train ride (each way), the cost of the train ticket, and that I wouldn't be seeing [livejournal.com profile] cattitude for four or five days.

The train ride could be a chance to get a pile of Tiptree reading done. But books are heavy.

Thoughts, suggestions, and anything I haven't thought of welcome in comments.

If I go, I either leave tomorrow morning or Friday morning; Friday means spending almost as much time in transit as in Montreal. (A slight exaggeration, but somehow days seem more like real time.)

Have you looked into the cost of flights to Montreal? With all the SARS hype going on there could be some real bargains to be found. You may even find flight costs comparable to train costs. I know I found that to be very nearly the case for Minneapolis after I'd already paid for my bus ticket.

Oooh, Tiptree.

Go to Montreal, and tell me all about it - my best friend is from Montreal.

Isn't "Tiptree" some kind of prize or anthology or something that [livejournal.com profile] redbird is doing reading for?

Well we'd also see you... and we could show you some things you didn't see because of the freezing rain, like a geodesic dome on an island and a Laura Ashley Gothic cathedral, and if you were here we'd have enough people for dim sum...

(I was thinking "Books are heavy, but you are strong" which sounds as if it ought to be the first line of something.)

You could always bring [livejournal.com profile] cattitude, we'd be pleased to see him too -- I don't suppose Amtrak are still doing that thing where you can bring someone for half price, are they?

Or anyway, we can go to Marche Atwater and buy cool cheese and you can take some home for [livejournal.com profile] cattitude.

Oh, please come. We're really looking forward to seeing you.

*hugs*

The one time I went on a long train ride (four days, Connecticut to California) I brought lots of books but got hardly any reading done because I couldn't take my eyes away from the windows. I don't have any trouble reading on local train rides, though, so no doubt familiarity would breed more reading.
