it's not crash space, but once when i got sidelined into madison (car problems on a road trip making me too late to catch my circus tickets in chicago) i had a really fabulous meal at a local restaurant called "l'etoile". it's a nice restaurant -- the type where the waitstaff is very dressy, but they're still exceedingly polite if you come in wearing boys' bathing trunks, sandals, and a t-shirt sporting an image of the god pan with an enormous erection. i'd been living on lucky charms and canned tuna for three days already, i admit, but the beet they gave me when i sat down was a little slice of heaven, and i don't even like beets....
(i'd intended to say something reassuring about serendipity, madison, and road trips, but it wasn't going very coherently, so please just take the above as a restaurant recommendation :)
