OED has "apothesis" (a noun for "setting of a broken limb"). It might be possible to derive "apothesia" from that, and that might be the word "apothenia" is a typo for. Can't find "-thenia" at all.

womzilla tells me that one of the other NYRSF staff, looking at etymologies and context, suggested that it meant the practice of incorrectly or falsely identifying patterns. (Womzilla, correct me if I misremembered that.) If so, it's a word English can certainly use.
