I'm just back from the physical therapist's. Today I saw Apu, the only PT who works there on Saturdays. In addition to the electrostim, ultrasound, and massage, we did some "strengthening exercises," in all of which he provided the resistance: push in toward my stomach, against his arm; push outwards, ditto (that one hurt my elbow a little, so we did 15 instead of 20); pull his arm backwards. On that one, he commented on my being strong, so I mentioned that I do 80 pounds on the adjustable row. He said that's a good exercise for me right now, which is good to know: I'd wondered, but missed it, so added it back.
Then Apu stretched my shoulder: had me relax and moved my arm up toward the vertical. It goes to between 170 and 175°, which is close to the normal 180, and didn't hurt when he did so.
I asked about the variant stretch Larry showed me last time, and apparently it's an alternative to one of the three I got from the orthopedist, not an addition.
We ended with ice, as usual, and I made an appointment for the same time next Saturday.
I don't know whether Apu is generally more thorough than Larry; whether this is a normal course, more the second visit; or whether it's because Wednesdays are much busier.
