redbird: the famous Apollo photo of Earth from space, with clouds (earth)
( Jul. 20th, 2009 07:34 am)
Forty years ago, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the face of the moon, the first humans to walk on another world.

I think I remember watching on TV at the time, but my childhood memories are fuzzy anyhow, and telling "watched it on TV at the time" from "watched the tapes on TV later" is more than I can produce. I'm old enough it's possible.

[This usericon is from a later Apollo mission, but I don't have a moon icon.]

OK, that's maybe a little too cute.

This morning, I was surprised Google was just displaying their usual logo. But OK, it's their site, and they tend to quixotic choices.

I've been using the built-in calculator today, so I've been there quite a bit. A few minutes ago, I noticed they had put up this logo, with the extremely cute letter l.

First thought, you're running late. Second thought, maybe not. Sure enough: they put it up at, or very close to, the to-the-minute anniversary of the moon landing.

Why not? We're that sort of geeks, right?
