redbird: closeup photo of an apricot (apricot)

[livejournal.com profile] cattitude and I found a fine Latin-American restaurant, mostly by luck. We were going to try the IHOP, and found that they had a line, which he didn't want to deal with. So we went across Broadway and into a place called Malecón, which had room and friendly bilingual staff. He had a Cuban sandwich; I had stewed oxtail, yellow rice, and red beans. The waitress asked if I wanted the lunch special, for $5.50, rather than the full $10.00 meal. I said sure--and am glad I did, both because it came with a couple of pieces of fried plantain and because I didn't manage to finish even this "smaller" serving. It was all quite tasty; he drank cafe con leche, I morir soñando, again both good. I like my morir soñando with cinnamon, which this didn't have, but that's one where preferences vary, and it was fine without.

(I'm writing this down largely so we won't forget; if anyone else is interested, it's on the east side of Broadway, about half a block north of W. 231st Street, in the Bronx.)

[livejournal.com profile] juliansinger offered to pick a letter for anyone who asked, and then we're supposed to pick ten things that start with that letter, and write about them and what they mean to us.

She gave me T. I started by listing some things, and then selected from them based on what I felt ready to write about. This proved trickier than I thought it would be (lots of T's in that sentence, but not ones I want to use) and the results may be more free-associative than was being asked for.cut because it got quite long )
