Winding down, working out

A slow day at work, because we're basically done with what I'm working on. Around 4, Edie said I could either leave, or stay if I wanted to be paid for the remaining couple of hours of the day. I said I'd go, and she said "Go to the gym" (rather than home). I said "Of course"--Edie is a good influence on me in this.

It was a good workout; I like being at the gym at the less-crowded times.

(I'm going in to the office tomorrow more as insurance than because there's expected to be much to do, but I get paid for it; I wouldn't be surprised to be sent home early again.)

Song of the Lesbian Elephants

Like sisters, the cameraman says, praising our closeness. Is this how humans love their sisters, trunks entwined, a large love more sexual than their little bodies can encompass?

Everyone I know is my sister, mother, aunt, child, or Grandmother. Grandmother loves us all fiercely, never as close as I to my lovers, too wise or too careful for bodily love, for singling out just one or two of her daughters.

We, we are old enough to know this desire, not so old that we must turn from it.

Trumpeting at the purple evening sky, shouting our love to the world, to the herd, always to each other, a long low song of joy.

Five years ago

I'm idly tagging my earliest LJ entries, and came across--in addition to politics, weather, and an odd bit of time slippage--my unsuccessful attempt to get the gas turned on at the home of roadnotes's Dubious Ex, so that he'd stop showing up on her and volund's doorstep to use their stove, and me wondering about New Year's Eve, back before it was established that I spend that holiday with papersky and her family.

And another couple of months got me to, among other things, my grandmother's death, and how surprised I was by the ways it hit me.
