I'm not actually doing the serious work of indexing, namely figuring out what needs to be listed in the index and under what headings.

What I'm doing is fixing every single page number in this index. Having gone through the book itself--a large-format, simple atlas for 5-9-year-olds--and marked a few things I'd like changed, I almost skipped the index. But I am thorough about these things, so I spot-checked [1]. The spots I checked were wrong, so I checked some more entries. Also wrong, consistently so: it looks as though two pages were slipped in late in production, after the index was created; the page numbers in the table of contents are right, at least.

So I have been playing with photocopiers, scissors, and tape, to get copies of a suitable size to mark up and reproduce. And now I will get to write lots and lots of corrected page numbers on my copies.

[1] For large values of "spot": Africa and Asia.

Since a lot of my friends don't read [livejournal.com profile] status, please note: according to this morning's post, LJ believes that all problems related to the server move have been fixed. If you're still missing comment emails, or having other problems, they want you to open a Support request. (The Support link I've given here points first to the Big Yellow Box, which has some hints on fixing things yourself.)

As I said, I'm not actually indexing this. If an item isn't in the first printing's index, I'm not adding it (few cases); if it's in there and in the atlas, it stays.

Approximate number of entries: 350 (I counted the entries in one column, and then multiplied by an estimate of total columns)
Number of entries without errors: 3
Number of entries deleted because the item isn't in the book: 2
Number of entries I have doubts about: 2 ("West Indies," not labeled on the relevant map, but they're there, and "Cabinda (Angola)," a small, disputed territory, but it's on the map, so we index it).
Unsurprising omission: Any label whatsoever on the colored blob that represents the occupied West Bank of the Jordan. I checked that after seeing "Cabinda" in the index and googling it.

For the umpteenth time, someone asked a group to describe "your ideal poly relationship(s)," by which they meant how many people, patterns of interrelations, housing situations, that sort of thing.

This time, I answered. My ideal situation would be to have the beloveds I have now, and for them to have their other loves and friends--with perfect health for all of us, and teleportation.

I don't have a specific relationship structure I was looking for, or specific "kinds" of people, except to the extent that there are personality traits I want in friends, and thus in partners. I have people I have been lucky enough to get to know, who I love and who love me, and who are part of my life.
