Thanks,
callunav, for the first aid geeking.
I had the tea tree oil from a previous incident, when I burned myself by spilling hot soup on a denim-clad leg.
treadpath gave it to me, along with some fresh aloe, a couple of days after I burned myself, so the 24-hour bit didn't apply.
I took a painkiller before bed last night, which was probably necessary to falling asleep. This morning, the hand only hurts if I put pressure on it. It doesn't take a lot--using that hand to rub my eyes wasn't good--but walking, typing, making and drinking tea, are all fine. It looks as though the middle finger is burned worse than the index finger, but I'm fairly sure it's a first-degree burn that was particularly problematic because there are a lot of nerve endings in the fingers. I may use more tea tree oil later (i.e. before bed, rather than taking another pill), and it might be a good idea to have aloe vera gel in the medicine cabinet, but I don't think this one is going to be a big deal.
