redbird: closeup of me drinking tea, in a friend's kitchen (Default)

When I spoke to my mother last week, I mentioned (among many other things) that when I want to see [livejournal.com profile] papersky, [livejournal.com profile] rysmiel, and [livejournal.com profile] zorinth, I have to visit Montreal, because they don't feel safe coming to the United States to visit me.

Mom asked why, and I explained. This involved me giving a three-sentence summary of what happened to Maher Arar. Her response was that they had nothing to worry about because "They don't look Arab."

Right. I'm sure that's a great reassurance to them.

I work with sane people, and this is a blessing.

Fortunately, I like doing a whole bunch of different things, even if some of them would be downright tedious if I had them as my main or only work.

Ate lunch at my desk today, and am using the time to read LJ and answer email, instead of sitting in the cafeteria with the newspaper or a book.

My A train was half-empty this morning. It also left quite soon after the previous train (which I'd just missed), but my best guess is that a lot of people are listening to the advice to take other subway lines.

I did what I consider my basic short workout: cardio, the "express line" weight/resistance machines, and my mat work.
