My right shoulder has been sore for the last couple of days--in ways that lead me to think that it's mostly overuse at the computer, but that's a side issue here--but I hadn't been to the gym since last Thursday, and didn't do cardio then. So, despite being up late again last night, I got up and headed out with [livejournal.com profile] cattitude, planning on a workout that emphasized lower-body stuff.

The cardio went fine. And then my right calf cramped badly on the first weight machine. I tend to push myself to that point on the calf machine, which isn't good, because it's not predictable and therefore I can't figure out when to stop--but usually it goes away as soon as I stop. This time it hurt a lot: rather than being able to stretch a little and fix it, I couldn't find a comfortable angle for the leg, and did nothing but sit there for a bit. That muscle needed quite a bit of coddling. [In fact, several hours and lots of gentle walking around later, it's still tender.] Okay, right shoulder and right leg off-limits, that didn't leave much. I did what seemed plausible, stretched, and went down to Chinatown for an early lunch and some shopping.

I had to go up to Grand Street to find tangerines of a kind I like (these were New Year's tangerines, and I got a dozen, because they're probably my last of the season). Being there anyway, I decided to head east and stop in at Kossar's for bialys. I ate the first tangerine before I'd gotten home--the pharmacist commented on the smell of citrus--and the first bialy with a cup of tea as soon as the kettle boiled. I've also made a batch of apple cakelings, and a batch of chocolate-ginger.

I mentioned this to [livejournal.com profile] wild_irises and she said to go ahead and post it.

If I'm ever tempted to think that my LiveJournal friends list is a valid cross-section of anything (with the possible exception of my social circle as a whole), I need only remember that there are more transgendered people on my friends list than there are Republicans (or Tories [1]). There may, in fact, be more space probes and fictional characters on my friends list than there are Republicans/Tories (and that is not an accurate reflection of my social circle as a whole).

If anyone who thinks I'm wrong about the numbers or proportions wants to come out as a Republican, please do.

[1] My first thought was just "Republicans," but considering the geographic distribution of my friendslist, it seemed only fair to throw Tories into the mix.
