redbird: closeup of me drinking tea, in a friend's kitchen (Default)

I got myself out of the house a little after 10, meaning I got to the gym before 11, when it was uncrowded and I wasn't hungry yet. (I'd had rye bread with butter and lime curd for breakfast. I had a good workout.
gym details )

Then I took the train down to 14th Street and indulged myself with lunch at Rue des Crepes. Today's special was one wild mushroom crepe and one chorizo, black bean, and plantain crepe, a combination that works better than it sounds. Came with a nice green salad, and I had a cup of tea and sat and ate and was happy.

After lunch, I walked down 14th Street, looking for a sunglass place [livejournal.com profile] rysmiel had described vaguely. I didn't find it, and don't know if I overlooked it, or if it's not there anymore (there seems to be a lot of business turnover in that neighborhood. [livejournal.com profile] porcinea may know, because he found it while visiting her. The walk took me to Union Square, so I got half a gallon of unpasteurized apple cider, then walked down to Sixth Avenue and West Fourth Street for chocolate. Thence home via the A train, and here I am, slightly sore but basically happy about myself and the universe this afternoon.

No word from either freelance client in the last couple of days (I'm not counting the research job as a current client, since I don't think he has any more work for me in the near future). So I've done some LiveJournal support, and written a Turbo APA zine. If nothing paid turns up immediately, I'll try to work on my novel tomorrow.

Sunday I may be getting together with [livejournal.com profile] roadnotes so she can see my fancy new haircolor in person. I also want to get to the gym that day, because they're running weird short hours for Christmas and then I'm going off to Montreal. (Basically, this all means that Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday will work a lot better than Monday/Wednesday/Friday before seeing Mom.) And there's a movie I want to see before it vanishes into the ether: Russian Ark, a tour of Russian history via the Hermitage, which is doomed to be a trivia answer forever (the question is "what is the longest tracking shot in the history of movies?" The entire film is a single 97-minute shot, with no cuts or retakes) and sounds fascinating. If Sam gets back to me, I may toss most of this overboard and start digging out information on such topics as the rise of feudalism in Europe and the history of Kievan Rus, but I'm not doing that until he tells me I'm doing that chapter.
