There is at least one restaurant where I can eat the hot and sour soup.

We went to Little Q Hot Pot yesterday, because we needed lunch before the internet installer got to our new apartment, and the restaurant is right at Mass Ave. The lunch specials come with soup, and instead of asking what we wanted, the server just brought two cups of hot and sour soup. I tasted it, cautiously, and liked it. A little more, and a little more, and I ate the whole thing: it was mostly sour and not very hot. I wound up eating Cattitude's as well; the soup was full of tiny mushrooms, so not suited for him.

The installer turned up in good time, so we have internet; we also got the rug pads cut and the rugs laid down. Now we have to decide by Monday morning what furniture goes where.

My favorite hot&sour in the universe is at Mary Chung's (Mass-Av in Central Square, near MIT; it is the successor restaurant to my father's college Chinese restaurant, which amuses him). Mostly sour, not too hot, as well, now that I ponder it that way.

(And now I kind of want my usual order from Mary's, which I've been craving on and off for ages. The problem with this being that it is a long way to Cambridge from here....)
