Yesterday evening I had dinner with
papersky and a few other people. She emailed us the day before to see if we were available, after finding that her train likely would arrive at the officially scheduled 6:30 instead of 9 or after. (New York is more-or-less the last stop on her book signing tour, though I gather today will be business stuff at her publisher's office, not a reading.)
So I rearranged my schedule a bit, to involve gym in the afternoon and then dinner, instead of leaving in the morning with
cattitude, going to the gym, and then coming back uptown. I thought about locations, realized that it was basically as easy for me to meet Jo and Z at the train station, and help them with geography/logistics, as to meet them at the restaurant. (I had to get across town either way, and the railroad station and its subway station have escalators and elevators.) I'm fairly sure this made their trip a little easier, and it got me more time to talk with Jo (Z was being pretty quiet, except for telling me about some stuff he got at the Field Museum), so definitely the right choice.
No cardio, the bikes were either out of order or in use when I got there, and I couldn't convince myself to stay on one for more than about 40 seconds after doing the interesting stuff.
Rolled out the IT band, etc.
Hamstring bridge, 4 sets of 9
Ab work on a large ball (possibly too large), 2 sets of 10, stopped there because I kept feeling pain/tension in my right shoulder, even after I started consciously relaxing/lowering it.
Squats leaning on (somewhat smaller) ball, 2 sets of 15
Opposite arm and leg balance thing, 8 pairs
Calf raise leaning on ball, 2 sets of 15
Standing on foam roller, a bit, was having some difficulty (looking at the mirror may be a mistake), but decided to try standing on one foot, and made that work, briefly, for each leg.
Psoas, supported by medicine ball, 2 on each side.\
"Free motion" machine (in large weight/resistance machine room), standing on balance platform:
Lat pulldown, 30 pounds, 12; 35 pounds, 12; 15 pounds, one leg at a time, 12 on each side
Hug a tree, standing on the floor, 10 pounds, 2 sets of 12
Back exercise, 15 pounds, 3 sets of 12
Triceps, 15 pounds, 6
Nautilus: chest press, 50 pounds, 12
Hip abduction, 70 pounds, 12; 60 pounds, 12. I hadn't done this in a couple of months, and reducing the weight seems to have been insufficient, given the way my left hip was feeling this morning.
(That makes 9 gym workouts for January, plus whatever I've done at home, and walking (though less of that without the commute to work.)
