I was going to Boston for the weekend. I bought tickets, went downtown, and even got on the train I had a ticket for. We got as far as New Haven, and were informed first that there was going to be a delay because of a train down on the line, and then that our train was being turned back to New York. No service between New Haven and Boston, because of damage to the electrical wires. I made a brief attempt to find/join other passengers on alternate transportation, but that didn't lead anywhere promising, so I decided to stay on my train and come home. (I was having bad thoughts of being stranded in New Haven, if I couldn't get on the bus; or, at best, of waiting an hour or three and paying for a railroad ticket home.)
So, I need to arrange ticket refunds, and plan another trip in a few weeks.
Yes, this is disappointing, but it could be a lot worse: I am adequately fed and caffeinated, and home with my beloved
cattitude. And my company gave us today off (at the last minute), so this hasn't cost me vacation time. Actual time, yes, but I have the day off available to use later.
In unrelated today-annoyances, in the course of going to get
julian_tiger his special cat food, I seem to have lost my Palm PDA. This is annoying, in part because I don't have recent backups for it (insert complaint about Windows 7 here). At best, I have somewhat old information I might be able to pull off backups (if we can get a suitably old Linux to install from CD).
So, I am collecting contact information. Especially telephone and postal, but also email if you haven't heard from me lately. If I have made any specific plans with you for social stuff, please remind me.
