Based on a cartoon by Roz Chast, from this week's New Yorker, that is living on the refrigerator at my office. [I had to completely replace the answers for her last question, and couldn't get a superscripted 2 into a poll question.)

Sorry, can't help it... There's a superfluous "d" in "Choose and answer".

The annoying thing is, there's no way to edit polls. (I was too busy worrying about how all the symbols worked to proofread the English properly.)

I'm not at all sure I want people explaining their answers, but if they do, it shouldn't be "why did you pick LBJ?" it should be "which answer did you give to this question, and why?"

Alrighty, I took Andrew Jackson because he was one of the guys who founded the modern Democratic Party and the first president to pay off the country's debt.

Well, I read the question as "If someone put a gun to your head and said 'Choose and answer,' which of the following would be your answer?" and answered it that way. But it occurs to me just now that there is a different interpretation of that question: "If someone put a gun to your head and said 'Choose and answer,' which of the following would be the person who did it?"

Those interpretations lead to rather different answers, I think.
