redbird: closeup of me drinking tea, in a friend's kitchen (Default)

Having been, I think, mostly sensible through the weekend, last night I stayed up fairly late at [livejournal.com profile] papersky, [livejournal.com profile] rysmiel, and [livejournal.com profile] zorinth's house, drinking tea, eating mangosteens (cool new food--you can't get them fresh in the U.S.) and talking to people. And then woke up this morning around seven with my hip sore. A bath not having helped, I think I will grab some clothes and go around the corner for a cup of tea and a croissant, leaving a note for my loves.

A real con report is possible later. I will be home later today.

I thought I remembered that fruit name - per Wikipedia, "beginning in 2007 for the first time, fresh mangosteens are also being sold for as high as $45 per pound from specialty produce stores in New York City". They'd been available for about a year prior in high-end restaurants. Puerto Rico just started producing them in (barely) importable quantities.

Well, the ferocious ankle-biter will be glad to see you. (His technique was to come up and demand to be petted for a while, then walk away, and when I wasn't looking, sneak up and nip my ankles. I don't think he's used to big primates hissing at him.)

Actually, as of this year, there is one shop in Brooklyn selling fresh Puerto Rican mangosteens.
