A friend of mine was writing about her reactions to Yom Kippur. It's a locked post, so I won't point you there or quote her by name, but it invokes me, by LJ username, as someone who is probably upset that she doesn't fast or otherwise observe the holiday.

My reaction was, basically, "Who, me? Me, who has a nice chicken tikka coming from the Indian takeout place?" I posted that; she hasn't responded.

It really feels as though she's remembering a conversation with someone else, and putting my name on it. I'm a pinko New York humanist; around here "Jewish" is part of an ethnicity.

I've been kind of busy. To put it mildly.

I only mentioned you as I think you're the only Jewish person on my Friends list. that was it. Why does this irritate you? The whole point of that post was that I'm not very Jewish in any other than a vague cultural sense either, and sometimes I wish I belonged to a "real" religion , at least as somthing definite to discard!

Maybe because you were writing about me in ways that conflict with who I actually am. Being told in mid-sentence that I'm expected to attack someone in ways I would never dream of is disconcerting, to say the least.
