I pulled myself together to head out when Andy did, to go to the gym. Not sure I'd go, but take the stuff. After a few minutes', I decided not--a bit of a headache, and I don't think I have two trips downtown in me today.
So I strolled home, still in the rain, looking for an earthworm for my garden.
I found something better: a flicker, bold as brass, on a tree stump near the path. I stopped and watched; he kept looking for insects, unconcerned about my presence. When he did fly off, it was only to a nearby patch of grass, and I watched him a while longer.
A good sign, the first flicker of the year.
