The R.I.P., via baldanders and roadnotes, is George Alec Effinger. In an email with his name as the subject line, meaning exactly what it usually does.

The next message in my email was also someone's name. Again the sinking feeling. But this time, it was just someone who thought I might be able to put him in touch with that person.
