I have the "zap cheap effects" Firefox plug-in, but it has to be clicked every time, which means if I leave a page with something annoying like blinking text, and go back, I have to click on "zap cheap effects" again.
If you put this text in your userContent.css file it will turn it off for good. The file needs to be in the chrome directory under your profile; see http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile#locate for instructions on finding the profile folder.

display: none !important;

blink { text-decoration: none ! important; }
I learned about this from the very useful entry on disabling the navstrip and other LJ-annoyances.

(I'll probably put this in tomorrow or thereabouts, when I'm not half asleep and worried about accidentally deleting something I need.)
