maybe because it was all early.

Elizabeth, an old friend of mine and Andy's from college, was in town, doing family-type stuff with her sweetie, Daniel. We wanted to get together, and the only time available was the morning. Okay, we'll meet for brunch. I talked them into 10:00 instead of nine, meeting at Sarabeth's kitchen, which I found by looking around on chowhound until I found a thread about pancakes.

We got there slightly late, because I thought we were running early and convinced Andy to take the scenic route. Elizabeth and Daniel were later, caught in traffic, so I put our names on the restaurant's list, figuring we had plenty of morning left, and it was a nice day, so we could hang out before we ate.

The pancakes were good. My farmer's omelette was good. The potato waffles were excellent, half waffle and half potato latke. The tea was good. (The croissant wasn't very good; there seem to be a lot of sad croissants on this continent.)

The conversation was more than good: we caught up, bounced off each other, had fun. Andy and I liked Daniel (who we hadn't met before), and I think he liked us.

After brunch, Daniel went to his grandmother's, and we wandered around some with Elizabeth. Somehow, I wound up spending close to $25 on a bottle of really nice-smelling bubble bath. Cinnamon orange. I'd meant to find a Body Shop and spend a third of that, maybe, but I hadn't done it. We were wandering into the kind of shops that have nice-smelling, expensive bubble bath because Elizabeth enjoys make-up. When I got home, I pitched the Mr. Bubble, which I bought recently, used once, and found I actively dislike the smell of. Right now, of course, it's hot enough that a bath has no appeal whatsoever.

Food, walking, and conversation, with a few good friends. About the only improvement would have been an extra half hour to get ready in the morning. (Breakfast at 10 is fine, having to wash and dress in time to be out of the house at 9:15 on Sunday is not as fine.)

More than good, less than infinite...

I wish I had at least a week to spend hanging around NYC, visiting with you folks and a few others, and just wandering around the city. Sorry that I hauled you down the Primrose Path to Perdition with me (I had no business laying waste to Sephora as I did, but gee that was fun. And femme, too...). FWIW, I also love the Body Shop for makeup and bath stuff, as well as Origins :-}.

I was really pleased that you and Andy and Daniel hit it off -- he came into my life with one good referral from a college classmate in Israel, but no-one else in any of my circles of friends knew him. I'm very pleased (and not a little reassured!) that he's gotten universally good reviews (either that, or no-one has the guts to say otherwise! But you, I trust, most certainly *would*.). Not only that, but he has developed independent relationships with some of my friends.

I thought the food was excellent, too, but the company surpassed it. I'm glad we got to spend time together.

Enjoy a nice cool bath sometime... sheesh, it looks like we blinked and missed Spring!
