There's a heatwave here.

It was a gym day, which meant I did my morning stretches in the locker room (air conditioned) rather than at home; tonight's will not be fun. I exercised a while, stopping when my elbow started to hurt. Lunch was salad and pad thai at a place on Ninth Avenue that has excellent air conditioning.

After lunch, I took a crosstown bus (it's that hot, and the bus stop was in the shade and breezy) and went to the Mid-Manhattan Library, largely because it's air conditioned and has chairs. I sat and read for a while, then came home with two paperback novels, and have been wandering between this computer and the air conditioned bedroom. I'm considering the Museum of Natural History for tomorrow: it's handier to the A train.

Dinner is likely to be salami sandwiches, just because they require no cooking; I bought a small loaf of rosemary bread with this in mind.

Workout numbers:

Cardio, 20 minutes, top heart rate 147
Chest press, 70 pounds, 12, 8
Calf raise, 75 pounds, 13, 10; 70 pounds, 13
Wrist curls, 35 pounds, 3 sets of 15
Leg press, 320 pounds, 3 sets of 12
Adjustable row, 80 pounds, 3 sets of 80; once again, I had trouble finishing the third set, from tiredness

Crunches, 3 sets of 30
Back arches, 3 sets of 17
Tree, 4 sets of {3 on each side}

Balance lateral raise, 5 pounds each hand, 3 sets of 15
Hip adduction, 110 pounds, 13, 11
Hip abduction, 95 pounds, 2 sets of 13
Bicep curls, 30-pound bar, 25, 20. I stopped because of pain in my left elbow. That joint had been bothering me, while doing nothing, on my way to the gym, but had been okay until then; nonetheless, it was time to stop. Work muscles, coddle joints.
