Email seems okay

As far as I can tell, the email problem was because one of my correspondents is using Hotmail, and it decided (for no clear reason) to hold the messages addressed to me for a day or so. They're here now.

We are still waiting for the phone repair person.

My question is why do you use the red fish icon so much more than the red bird icon? Just wondering.

No strong reason. The purple trilobite (which is what I think you mean by "the red fish icon") is my current default, just because it feels right these days. One red bird is specifically the icon I use for tattoo posts, the other specifically for talking about birding.
