Changing the monitor refresh rate worked, and so did I. Mid-morning, I told Jim I'd be available tomorrow but not Thursday, and he responded by asking if I could give them next Monday and Tuesday. Sure. I can do that.
About 3:40, I finished the current project, the one that gets done on the computer. And it turned out that that's it for the instant, until someone else gets through another chunk and there's more for me to do. Jim said I'm terrific.
Fine, but I'm doing this by the hour. Egoboo is nice, but it won't buy Choco Leibniz cookies. And I doubt it will get me a job offer, let alone an offer of a job I want: the thing I impressed him with is mindless and hard on my hands, and the editorial staff all seem to have law degrees. (Okay, not mindless, quite--but it involves a few decisions made once and used over and over, and lots of repetitive cutting and pasting.)
Meanwhile, the Unemployment robot says they'll be mailing me a form because there was an interruption in my claim--i.e., two weeks in which I earned enough money not to get any benefits.
But first, Minicon.
