Daylight Saving Time begins tomorrow at 1 a.m./2 a.m. local time in most of Canada and the United States.

Daylight Saving Time is not observed in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, or the state of Arizona (with the exception of the Navajo Indian Reservation, which does observe DST). Note that Indiana has changed policy and now observes DST. ("Observe" is the terminology used over at www.time.gov, which gave me that list of exceptions.) If you're not in Indiana, your computer clocks will probably take care of themselves; if you're in Indiana and haven't reset your timezone or applied relevant system patches, your computer may need to be told the new time.

According to the CBC, which I think I trust, the areas in Canada that don't use Daylight Saving Time are Quebec east of 63°, most of Saskatchewan, and "small pockets of Ontario and British Columbia." (Note that this CBC page's information on Indiana is out of date.)

Thank you for the PSA! Though at least I'm not working tomorrow. Still.

I'm sort of sad that Indiana caved. I never lived in Indiana, or had any particular feelings for it except that it was the neighboring state we drove through in order to get to other places, but I liked knowing that it sat in the middle of the country, staunchly and stolidly defiant.

This now makes me want to write something called "Requiem for Time," but I doubt I will.

Thanks for the reminder, indeed; if my mother hadn't reminded me earlier today, I would have been the only reminder I got!

My computer wll take care of itself. However, my email program only looks at the offset from GMT when it starts up, and thus if I leave it running over a DST change, it starts getting quite confused and files people's replies before the email I sent that they're replying to, until I close it and restart it. Which is always annoying if I forget.

Naturally enough, Wikipedia has the details (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time).

Time

This morning on NPR, I heard that the dates for the time change will be different in 2007. It was so unexpected that I don't recall what it was. Did anyone else hear this and is this accurate or left over from April Fool's Day?
