My partners gave me a resounding chorus of "I like it both ways," which is reassuring but doesn't help me decide. Inertia may win here.

This seems a definite advantage to being poly, that you can get a consensus opinion on questions like this, rather than just asking one person which doesn't really get you any further forward. I tend to fail to dye (or style or do anything much beyond leave it there to grow as long as possible) my hair out of inertia too, so I can sympathize!

That is an advantage, but one definite preference can be better than a consensus "it's all fine."
