It's not a new computer, precisely--but it's a newer computer. More to the point, while [livejournal.com profile] cattitude did a lot of the work, there are still a variety of fiddly bits to be sorted out, starting with why Eudora doesn't want to download my email (I can read email, but I have to use the Web mail client--or, once I get around to re-installing that, ssh via PuTTy.) and proceeding to what other software I still need to (re)install.

If you urgently need to reach me, the telephone is probably the best bet.
including whether Trillian can be made to behave, and how to reliably turn animation off in Firefox.

If you enter "about:firefox" in the address bar, you get a list of settings; set images.animation-mode to "once" or "off", IIRC.

I'm sorry, that should have been about:config, and image.animation_mode. That works with my copy of Firefox 1.5.

New computers seem to be appearing lately. Soren's got the new(er, built for him by a former coworker) one up and running; I'm hoping to get a new(er) one this year. And I am not looking forward to the problems that come with....
