It's right after New Year's, so I'm in Montreal at
papersky's, a pleasant custom that began when she said "come back for New Year's" after her wedding in summer 2001 and then I found myself needing to run away from home a few months later, so I did.
We've been to the Biodome, where the beaver was very active and the lynx was at least awake, and I saw some fine iridescent-cheeked birds I didn't recognize in the Antarctica exhibit. I am now a Biodome member, partly because it makes economic sense given how often I go, and partly because I like to support organizations like this. (I'm a member of the Bronx Zoo for the same pair of reasons.)
One bookstore so far, where I bought a little calendar to tape to my desk; I usually get that here rather than in New York. Papersky roasted a goose for New Year's Eve, and made excellent goose pie for the next night's supper. There's been a party, and lots of tea, and mostly I'm just glad to be here with her and
rysmiel and
zorinth, and
fivemack who is also visiting and will be staying longer than I am.
I walked over to the patisserie yesterday morning, for croissants and pain au raisins and such; we had bread, but I like that patisserie, and I like being able to get a good croissant in walking distance, and it was only -10 (okay, -20 with the wind chill), and I have suitable winter clothes.
