The office was closing early today; Edie gave me the option of staying until my normal 6:00, or anything in between. I decided this was the perfect opportunity to get the golden Assam tea, stop off for basil (and, as it turned out, toasted onion bits and lemon curry) down the street at Aphrodisia and chocolate at Varsano's, and get to the gym. Mark Varsano charmed me: when I said I wanted "a half pound of this and that" he got out the box and said "orange peel." He was right, of course--I always get some chocolate orange peel, because
cattitude is so fond of it.
Then I went to the gym, where I added ten pounds to my leg press without meaning to, and without noticing until I was removing the weight plates.
Details:
Cardio, 25 minutes, top heart rate 140. Oddly, it was at that around minute 8, and then hovered around or just above 130.
Calf machine, 70 pounds, 3 sets of 13
Leg press, 280 pounds, 13; 190 pounds, 2 sets of 13; 240 pounds, 13. The plan had been to do one set at my previous max of 270, then two at two-thirds of that (removing a pair of the 45-pound plates) because my thighs tend to hurt the next day, so a bunch at a lower weight seemed sensible. After doing that, I decided to add two 25-pound plates and do one more set. Then, while I was about to take the weight plates off and put them away, I saw that the machine, which I'd thought had no weights loaded when I got there (this is the proper state of a weight machine nobody is using) had actually had one ten-pound weight, which was lurking behind my 45s. In percentage terms, that's not much, but it is a higher weight than I'd previously done on this machine, which is not what I'd had in mind tonight.
Tricep pulldown, 40 pounds, 2 sets of 15. Went easy with this one, because it was obvious on Tuesday at physical therapy that I'd overdone it on Sunday during my last workout, even though the weight and number of repetitions was within what I've done frequently before.
Crunches, 4 sets of 20
Back arches, 3 sets of 17
Tree, 4 sets of {2 on each leg}, a little more trouble balancing than usual
Adjustable row, 90 pounds, 15, 11
Hip adduction, 105 pounds, 2 sets of 13
Hip abduction, 90 pounds, 2 sets of 13
Vertical chest press, 55 pounds, 2 sets of 12
Bicep curl, 35 pounds, 2 sets of 15. I'd gone over to the hip machines after the rowing because I wanted a break from anything that required me to grip, but I felt I shouldn't skip this. But two sets, not three, and I didn't do the lateral raise that I often follow this with. Instead, after two sets I muttered "satis" and then "dayenu," and finished with
