Someone I sent a resume and cover letter to wants to see me tomorrow.

We talked a little bit, over the phone, about what the job involves. It's a two- or three-week contract gig, proofreading, $20/hour. Not great, but I think I'd be good at it--I've worked with indexes before, and that's what this is on--and it's real work, in my field.

And since it's a short-term gig, I suspect he's not spending a lot of time interviewing lots of people: in other words, that my chances are good.

I am pleased.

I'll be more pleased if I get it: and less so when I'm done up in job-seeker drag and on my way to the interview. I took the soonest time offered, which has the advantage of being mid-afternoon, so I can be sure of a good night's sleep and a real meal first. Afterwards, depending on timing, I either come home and change into proper walking shoes, then go out again, or head directly to dinner with friends and a show.

Woo! I'll be thinking good thoughts in your direction then.

It sounds like a decent way to spend a few weeks, anyway.

Way to go!

Great news, I hope it turns out well for you. Don't let the job-seeker drag be a bushel that hides your light: let your difference from just anybody show through at least a little.

And don't make my mistake and forget why you used to call your most formal shoes the "microtome" shoes, neglect to apply adhesive bandages, and carve a divot out of the back of your ankle.

lift bale, tote barge, catch typo

and kick butt! (in whatever shoes you wear...)

W/r/t "drag" -- I think of it as costume and props (business cards and notebook are my standard interview props). The role is "respectable citizen who just happens to be ideal for the proffered job." *grin*

FWIW, even tho' I'm much more femme than thou, I, too, have "interview drag" with less comfortable shoes. I tend to do conservative makeup for interviews (no glitter Urban Decay eye shadow), and I never leave my hair down. They can find out that I'm a longhaird hippie leftover when I come in for my first day of work. (and arrghh, tech writing jobs are still competing with poultry dentures 'round here)

good luck!
