I think my cell phone may be dead.

We were worried a couple of nights ago, because it was turning itself off and on repeatedly after [livejournal.com profile] cattitude accidentally spilled some liquid on it. But I took the battery out for a while, to let it dry, and it seemed fine all day today.

Just now, it made the "I am turning myself off" sound again, while plugged in to the charger. I tried turning it on, and got no response. I unplugged it, and tried again. Still nothing.

In the morning, I may try swapping in the battery from Cattitude's old phone of the same model, and then look into replacement hardware. (The latter decision, at least, requires more mental functioning than I have handy right now.)

I mention this mostly so that people won't expect to reach me via the mobile (646) number right now.

The secret with getting wet electronics to work again seems to be getting them *really* dry, and not trying to use them while they might still be damp inside. I once dropped my cellphone down a (clean) toilet (Don't ask!). It seemed to haved died, but I left it somewhere warm and dry for a few weeks and since then (about 3 years ago) it's been working fine. And my last laptop did sterling service for another year after a friend of mine knocked an entire pint of cider into it, because I left it on a radiator for a week.
