redbird: "Road Not Maintained: Travel at Own Risk" (risk)
([personal profile] redbird Aug. 28th, 2005 10:39 pm)
I just slammed my right index finger in the closet door while preparing to do exercises with an elastic. Not only is the bruise already visible--right at the base of the nail--and likely to be ugly for weeks, I howled loudly enough that [livejournal.com profile] julian_tiger came in, slowly, with his tail puffed all the way up, and I had to assure him that he was safe. (This was after I'd run cold water on it.)

P.S. Having run cold water on it a few times, and waited a few minutes, I was able to do all but one of the exercises with the elastic: the one where I'm moving my hand to the right, away from the center of the body, I had to use the finger and that wasn't good. I also did the usual stretches, with only slight modifications. And Julian's tail is back to normal, but he's still looking a bit cautious.

Sounds like popcicle stick time (with a cozy bandage of course). I wouldn't go see a doctor right away as all you'll get is a $500 bill and a fancy pocicle stick with a bandage. :P

Feel better.

Yeow!

Been there, done that!

I'm sure you know the drill: Keep it on ice and immobile as much as possible, elevated if you can. Use a splint and pain meds if you need to.

I currently have a big dark blotch under my right big-toenail because back in April I dropped the paper cartridge/drawer from the fax machine so that the corner of the crawer hit at the base of the toenail. It was all swollen and painful for the first day or two, and I thought I might lose the toenail -- but I didn't. Everything's normal now except the dark part, which will be all grown out by the end of the year. If I painted my toenails no one would ever know, except there's also a dent in the nail at the bottom of the blotch.

Bad edit! Bad!

Of course, "crawer" is cartridge + drawer. (Wasn't sure what to call the thing. Some people would probably just say "tray.") Sorry.
