redbird: "No fear, only tea"--from July 2005 (no fear)
([personal profile] redbird Jul. 8th, 2005 06:54 pm)
I've been wanting a tea icon for quite a while, and [livejournal.com profile] brisingamen pointed me to this one (which is tea and a bit of politics).

That now fills all my icon slots, which surprises me.

And I want a long-haired icon, as soon as I get around to getting [livejournal.com profile] cattitude to get a good, current digital photo of me. That means something will have to go.

At times like this, I wish I had a system for which icon means what, like some of my friends. (OK, the travelcard icon gets used for travel-related posts, and the tattoo picture for posts and comments about tattooing, but there's no particular rhyme or reason to what gets purple hair, what gets Mandelbrot, and so on.)

Damn, I like your tea icon.

I've been needing one anyway. It's lovely to get one that also has a political message.

How to systematize your icons:

The keywords are...ahem...key.
If you type a comma-separated list of keywords in there, then when you are choosing an icon to go with a post, you will see the entire list of keywords in the drop-down list.

What I do is put a name in each icon's keyword list. To distinguish them from the "regular" keywords, I capitalize the names.
The when I'm choosing an icon, I pull down the list and see if any of the keywords fit. If not, I choose one of the icons by name. Then I go back and decide what keyword would have fit, and add it to the icon that's closest. This is my "mechanics" icon.

What this means is that if I add or delete an icon, I redistribute the keywords so they best-fit the current pictures, and anything that got a assigned by Name an icon that is no longer there gets the default icon.
